Linkin Park rant

Ok, so let me start this post by explaining that Linkin Park is my favorite band ever. I've seen them several times, and when I was younger, I was a total fangirl. Literally, I learned how to use PowerPoint by making a presentation about the band members. I was totally in love with them in the creepiest way. Then, Minutes to Midnight came out, and I was so desperately disappointed, and I kind of stopped following them, but every time I listen to Hybrid Theory, I still get that beautiful nestalgic feeling... It is my favorite album. And for the record, Living Things is alright, too. Not nearly as good as their earlier stuff, but...

So, as I said, Minutes to Midnight disappointed me. Still, I listen to it now and then, and I even have a couple "favorites" on there; however, A Thousand Suns? I will never, ever listen to it. It is an absolute disgrace. And I gave it honest effort. I did not want to believe that I could really dislike Linkin Park music so much, but it happened, folks.

So today, we had a meeting for a singing group I'm in, and we're trying to choose a piece to do for our upcoming performance, and someone fucking had the audacity - no, ignorance - to recommend some tracks off of A Thousand Suns. Not only that, but when I objected, they started talking about how great of an album it was, and even implied it was Linkin Park's best, and I was just so disgusted... Have these people not heard Hybrid Theory? Meteora? There was one girl who made the primary suggestions, and this group of people who agreed with her. I was just so shocked and apalled.

But then, when I thought about it more rationally later, it dawned on me that, if A Thousand Suns is someone's honest-to-god favorite Linkin Park album, then that simply must be because they like a totally different Linkin Park than I do. There is just no way that someone who likes my type of music can honestly like Hybrid Theory less than A Thousand Suns. I mean really. It doesn't even sound like them, in my opinion.

And on a totally un-Linkin-Park-related note, the girl who suggested those songs, omg she was fucking annoying all rehearsal. She kept talking about how her high school chorus did things, acting like it was so superior, like we should really give a damn that this freshman had such a reputable high school chorus. Well chica, so did I, and it doesn't fucking matter once you get to college, especially a college whose music program is as subpar as ours. Sure, we have fun, and we even have some really talented singers, but we are by no means a school known for its music. So get the fuck out of here with that attitude. Ugh!

Anyway, rant over. That was just fucking frustrating as hell.

Completely agree with you, Sarah. I wasn't thrilled with the later albums myself. As far as I can tell you, they lost that kick-ass kind of streak that made me want to start a fight or do 200 plus push ups. Lol

Yeah, they were so great. It wasn't just that they were totally badass; they had meaningful lyrics, they were pretty catchy, and there was some layers to their music that other bands didn't seem to have. Living Things, I think, attempts to get back to that a little, but it's not nearly on the level they were before.

Glad I don't listen to mainstream music like that then.

I actually liked Minutes to Midnight. you're right, Hybrid Theory and meteora are their two best albums, but Minutes to Midnight was actually decent. As for A Thousand Suns, I totally agree with you. It sucks ass. Pretty much everyone I know who's heard that album agrees with me. Some people just have shitty taste in music, I guess.

I once loved them but then I grew up. I've come to realize they are just a noisy, emo version of every boy band from the 90's. It pisses me off even more that the lead singer grew up near me. Yuck.

I am the odd one out, all though I do not like all of the tracks off of a thousand suns I do like one or two of them. Outside of that, ya they have gone down the drain.
